Chi sao is not only important, it is essential for anyone who wishes to learn the art. Hawkins Cheung, by the way, is known to be very good at chi sao and places a great deal of emphasis on chi sao with his students.

Unfortunately, there is no way to learn chi sao alone. If you are unable to locate a good sifu in your vicinity, you should at least find a partner with whom you can practice. Then one - or ideally both -- of you can travel to another city to take some private lessons, which you can practice at home, as well as training others. Learning chi sao is quite easy. The key to obtaining good results is much practice with a partner.
