Whether Yip man conceal a true wing chun form is not imporant. What is important is whether you can find a good teacher who will teach you properly and you can apply what you learnt in a fight.
Today some of Yip man's students only teach people a very diluted wing chun. This including my own teachers, because they have only being taught a diluted version of wing chun. I also have seen three of Yip man's students teaching a very diluted version of wing chun. I based my judgement on how their students sparred with each other in their classes. They were fighting each other like poorly trained amatuer boxers after learning wing chun for several years. The head teachers did not even brother to correct their own students' mistakes. However, they all claimed that they are teaching Yip man's wing chun and Yip man taught them personally.

I would like you to consider the following points:
1. To learn wing chun is a very hard job for both teachers and students. It is much easier to teach people a diluted version, especially since most people do not want to spend the time to mastering wing chun. They only want to learn some techniques to defend themselves and leave the class after six months.
2. some teachers do not want their students to surpass them. This is due to ego, power and money factors.
3. teachers do not like to be back stab by their students.

The in-fighting amongst wing chun teachers are mostly due to ego, money, jealousy factors and not whether wing chun is being taught properly.This is my point of view only.
