Sifu Wei Poi Tang (Britain) and Sifu
Hawkin Cheung have both fought Thai boxers before. Sifu Wei Poi Tang
has beaten some professional Thai boxers in Thailand several years
ago. However, he was hurt in one of his matches. The object of
Chinese martial arts is to hit and not get hit. If you try to block
a Thai boxer's kick then you will have some part of your body
broken, unless you have conditioned your body to take the
punishmenti.e. mastered the art of iron shirt. You friend is
correct to said that Thai boxer's round house kick is powerful
against wing chun opponents who cannot fight with their wing chun
skill. Those wing chun opponents fight like kick boxers or human
punch bags. The real wing chun practitioners will use his/her skills
to avoid the strength of the Thai boxer and attack his weakest.
Therefore, he/she will closes the gap very quickly, so that the Thai
boxer cannot uses his round house kick. Powerful kick does not
win a fight, if it does not hit on the target. Two finger jabs to
the eyes performed by an untrained people is just as deadly as a
Thai boxer's kick, if it blind the eyes - wing chung' third form.
